Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the worsening insecurity in parts of Northern Nigeria, describing the situation as “unacceptable.”
Atiku made the remarks in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday after meeting with political stakeholders from Borno State, led by Mohammed Kumaila.
He said the discussions focused on the deteriorating security crisis in the North East, North West, and North Central regions, where he alleged that terrorists and bandits have taken control of some communities.
“The conversation with the Borno leaders centred more on the current worsening security situation, especially in Northern Nigeria,” Atiku said.
“The consensus is that the occupation of Nigerian territories across some parts of North East, North West, and North Central states is a clear failure of political leadership, especially under the Tinubu-led APC Federal Government. It is unacceptable that bandits or terrorists continue to take over communities, imposing levies on citizens and disrupting farming activities.”
The former Vice President expressed confidence that Nigeria’s security forces are capable of addressing the challenges but blamed leadership failures for the continued crisis.
He also urged Nigerians to unite in opposition to the current administration, noting that the 2027 elections would present an opportunity to “rescue the country.”
Atiku commended the Borno stakeholders for their concern about the state of the nation and pledged his support for efforts aimed at restoring peace and economic stability.
