The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned domestic airlines against delays in processing passenger refunds, stressing strict compliance with the regulator’s 14-day refund policy.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, said some airlines are informing passengers that refunds will take up to four weeks, contradicting NCAA rules. “There cannot be two captains in command on an aircraft. NCAA regulations must be obeyed to the letter by all airlines,” he stated via his verified X handle @mikeachimugu01 on Monday.
He emphasized that Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023 requires refunds within 14 days, and operators cannot impose their own timelines. Achimugu also urged passengers to report any airline communication promising longer refund periods to michael.achimugu@ncaa.gov.ng, ifueko.abdulmalik@ncaa.gov.ng, or cpd@ncaa.gov.ng.
“Enough of this. We cannot all claim to be working for the improvement of the industry while undermining the Authority and being unfair to passengers,” he added.
