Armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on farmers across multiple communities in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday, triggering widespread panic and displacing residents.
The affected communities include Gidan Buwai, Kundus, Rarah, and Dudu Barade Bulke, where farmers were reportedly forced to flee for safety as gunshots echoed through the area.
According to a security alert issued on Thursday morning by analyst Bakatsine via X (formerly Twitter), the incident also claimed the life of a local hunter who was shot while attempting to escape in Rarah.
“ALERT: Yesterday morning, bandits attacked farmers in Gidan Buwai, Kundus, Rarah, and Dudu Barade Bulke, all in Rabah LGA, Sokoto State. Farmers were displaced and gunshots rang out. A fleeing hunter was shot in Rarah. No abductions or livestock thefts reported,” Bakatsine wrote.
While no kidnappings or cattle rustling were reported during the attack, the incident adds to the growing insecurity plaguing Sokoto State. Armed groups have repeatedly targeted rural communities, disrupting farming activities and threatening food security.
Security forces are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
