The Kaduna State Police Command has uncovered unexploded military-grade bombs and a cache of ammunition concealed within a waste consignment transported from Borno State, a region plagued by insurgency.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Mansir Hassan, the discovery was made on August 2, 2025, following credible intelligence received by the police. The items were found at a scavenger facility located in Kudandan Industrial Area, Kaduna South Local Government Area.
Acting on the tip-off, a specialized team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit swiftly mobilized to the scene. After a detailed inspection, the suspicious materials were confirmed to be unexploded ordnance (UXOs)—extremely dangerous military explosives that had not yet detonated.
“The EOD operatives safely evacuated the explosives to a secure location where they were later destroyed through controlled demolition, in strict compliance with safety protocols,” DSP Hassan stated.
In addition to the bombs, the police recovered:

A locally-made revolver pistol loaded with six rounds

Commissioner of Police CP Rabiu Muhammad immediately ordered the closure of the scavenger facility to enable a full sweep of the premises by bomb disposal experts. He also issued a strong warning to all scavenger and recycling companies across Kaduna:
“Operations involving the transport of waste materials from conflict-affected zones must stop immediately. This incident highlights the serious security risks such actions pose.”
The Commissioner added that an investigation is underway to determine the source, route, and intent behind the shipment of the explosives, assuring residents that the police remain vigilant in securing the state.
