Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic has criticised the referee’s decision to send off Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga during their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash, insisting the dismissal was harsh and unnecessary.
The match, officiated by Slavko Vinčić, saw Bayern Munich defeat Real Madrid 4–3 in the second leg on April 15, securing a 6–4 aggregate victory after a dramatic turnaround in the closing stages.
Camavinga was initially booked for a reckless tackle before receiving a second yellow card in the 86th minute for time-wasting after holding onto the ball following a free-kick decision, reducing Madrid to 10 men at a crucial point in the game.
Bayern capitalised on the numerical advantage, with late goals from Luis Díaz and Michael Olise sealing the win and completing their aggregate comeback over Los Blancos.
Speaking after the match, Stanisic told MadridZone that he believed the referee was unaware Camavinga had already been booked, adding that officials “have lost their ability to manage big matches,” while also noting the midfielder’s previous Champions League red card history.
