Border closure extension: Galvanised roofing sheets smuggled through seaports, group tells Buhari

President  Muhammadu Buhari has been commended for holding grip of the nation’s economy by extending the border closure till January 31, 2019 with the major drive to achieving the desire prosperity and create more jobs opportunities for Nigerians.
The National Coordinator of Social Integrity Network, (SINET), Mallam Ibrahim Issa, in a statement issued on Monday noted that the border closure has further confirmed the status of Nigeria as the giant of Africa. READ ALSO:Smuggling: Buhari gives new date for border re-opening
He appealed for close monitoring of seaports where smuggling of galvanised roofing sheets and illegal importation of substandard aluminium roofing sheets still persist stressing that Nigerian markets are flooded with fake steel products. Seaports are the major routes for roofing sheets smugglers.
SINET further gave critical assesment of the federal government policy under President Buhari saying it is an indication that the government has the progress of Nigerian business community at heart.

While urging Nigerians to be patient with the federal government in its bid to achieve the desired economic prosperity, the group affirmed that the move was national-interst driven for the overall interest of the country.

According to him, “In as much as we are Nigerians with genuine interests in the growth and development of the nation, we want to commend the government for the step it took concerning the closure of the borders. Our neighbours are taking us for granted.

“Nigeria has become a dumping ground for other developed economy of the world. There is need to develop our local contents and where there needs for improvements, let’s heed to advise and employ best brains that will inject ideas and innovations into our modus operandi.

“We can’t continue to live in  perpetual dependency status where foreign influence(s) will continue to drive our policies as an independent/sovereign nation. There are various principles of International Law and Diplomacy. He therefore maintained that “Let all member states abide by the treaty of ECOWAS which was signed and affirmed to abide by, in order to ensure a peaceful and prosperous African sub-region.
