Nigerian singer Burna Boy has made history by becoming the Nigerian artist with the most albums to chart on the US Billboard 200.
His latest project, No Sign Of Weakness, debuted at No. 200 this week, bringing his total to five albums on the prestigious chart.
Previously, Burna Boy was tied with fellow Afrobeats star Wizkid, who also had four albums charted.
Despite making history, No Sign Of Weakness had a modest performance, selling just 8,800 units in its first week in the United States.
It marks the lowest debut for any Nigerian album on the Billboard 200.
Industry analysts attribute the underwhelming entry in part to recent changes in Billboard’s charting rules.
Under the updated methodology, only U.S.-based sales and streams are counted, excluding international streams that previously helped global acts rank higher.
Afrobeats artists like Burna Boy have traditionally relied on strong international fan bases in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK to boost their chart positions.
The new rules may make it more challenging for non-U.S.-based artists to maintain strong showings on the Billboard 200.
Still, Burna Boy’s fifth entry on the chart cements his status as one of the most internationally recognized Nigerian musicians.
