Court Grants Bail to Crypto Trader Blord, Bars Foreign Travel Pending Trial

Date:

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to embattled cryptocurrency entrepreneur Linus Williams Ifejirika (Blord), popularly known as Blord, on self-recognizance following days of legal uncertainty over his detention.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore confirmed the ruling, stating that the court approved the bail while ordering Blord to deposit his international passport as part of the conditions.

Sowore, who was present during the bail hearing, had earlier expressed cautious optimism about the outcome of the case as proceedings unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The bail decision comes amid controversy surrounding alleged misconduct by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC), with accusations of abuse of power and improper handling of Blord’s detention, including claims of leaked detention footage.

Further allegations also suggest internal collusion between some officers and social media activist Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan), with sources claiming Blord’s detention was allegedly turned into a public spectacle before he was eventually remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
