COVID-19: Kebbi varsity ASUU donates materials to govt
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero (KSUSTA) banch on Thursday donated some materials to the Kebbi State Government to support its fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chairman of the Union, Dr Ibrahim Garba Wawata, who made the donation at the Primary Healthcare Units, Birnin Kebbi said that the move was part of the obligations of academic staff in all Nigerian Universities which include; teaching, research, and community service. ROYQL NEWS gathered that items presented include; four cartons of hand sanitizers and one hundred and Fifty Face Masks (three layered) to the Taskforce committee as well as the University community and General Hospital, Aliero among others.
He added that as governments and countries across the world are looking into measures towards easing the lockdown order, ASUU deems it necessary to donate the items as intervention materials to support government in its effort to curb the pandemic stressing that goveenment alone cannot curtail the spread of the infectious disease.
He commended Governor Atiku Bugudu and the Task force committee for the proactive and moderate measures taken in consultation with all stakeholders in the state which has yielded positive results and ease activities of residents of the State.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Task Force in the state, Hon. Ja’afar Muhammad, commended ASUU for the kind gesture extended to the state and acknowledged that the donation was timely and much needed at a time government is considering easing the lockdown order in the state.
Also speaking, The Hon. Commissioner of Ministry for Higher Education, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, also thanked ASUU KSUSTA and call on other sister unions in the University to emulate the gesture.
He added that the Kebbi State Government had approved the sum of Four hundred and twenty-nine Million (N 429,000,000) for the payment of Earned Academic Allowance for Academic and non-Academic staff of the University for the period of 2009 – 2013. However, academic staff had been paid off 100 % of their claims, he therefore encouraged the Union to do more in other areas of community services in a bid to uplift the state and nation at large.
The Union therefore employed the general public to adhere strictly to the guidelines laid down by the NCDC in order to ensure the prevention and control of the COVID – 19 pandemic in state.
