Customs Seize Donkey Meat, Viagra, Fuel Worth Millions in Adamawa Border Crackdown

Date:

The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a wide range of contraband items, including second-hand clothing, raw donkey skin, dried donkey meat, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and unregistered pharmaceutical products across border routes in Adamawa and parts of Taraba State.

The Comptroller of the Command, Mohammed Mato, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

He said the seizures were made between February and April 2026 following intelligence-led operations across several border corridors.

According to him, on February 13, officers intercepted 43 jumbo sacks of second-hand clothing along the Savannah–Nunan road, alongside five cartons and 12 packages of Viagra 200mg tablets.

On March 12, operatives along the Mubi–Sangere axis seized 500 pieces of raw donkey skin and 460 kilograms of dried donkey meat.

Mato further stated that on March 13, along the Likitaba–Gembu axis in Taraba State, 110 jerricans of PMS (25 litres each) were intercepted.

He added that on March 15, officers seized 520 jerricans of PMS and 112 jerricans of Automotive Gas Oil along the Mubi–Saguda road, while another 176 jerricans of PMS were recovered on April 11 along the Ganye–Toungo federal highway near the Cameroon border.

“The operations were carried out in line with relevant provisions of the Nigeria Customs Act, 2023, which empowers the Service to prevent the unlawful export of restricted items, including petroleum products and wildlife derivatives,” Mato said.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying anti-smuggling operations, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

Mato also urged those involved in illicit trade to turn to legitimate businesses, stressing that smuggling continues to undermine Nigeria’s economy and security.
