Deceased Legislators’ Sons Take Over Seats in Kano Assembly

Date:

The sons of two late Kano State lawmakers have won the by-elections for their fathers’ seats in the state House of Assembly. The elections, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, filled the vacancies left by the deaths of Aminu Sa’ad of Ungogo Constituency and Sarki Aliyu Daneji of Kano Municipal Constituency, who reportedly passed away on the same day.

The winners, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad and Aliyu Nabil Daneji, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured the Ungogo and Kano Municipal seats, defeating eight other candidates in their respective constituencies. Their victories maintain the political legacy of their late fathers.

In Kano Municipal, Returning Officer Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj declared Aliyu Nabil Daneji the winner after he polled 7,484 votes. His closest rival, Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), garnered only 105 votes, while other candidates lagged further behind. Results were collated from all polling units in the constituency before the declaration.

In Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad emerged victorious with 8,975 votes, defeating Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), who scored 54 votes. Returning Officer Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi noted that the elections were peaceful and conducted according to electoral guidelines.

Both Returning Officers commended political parties, security agencies, and voters for their cooperation during the process. The smooth conduct of the by-elections underscores the effective management of electoral procedures in Kano State and preserves continuity in representation following the sudden deaths of the former lawmakers.
