The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Directorate, on Thursday held a sensitisation session for members of the NYSC/EFCC Community Development Service (CDS) Anti-Corruption Group as part of its youth engagement strategy in the fight against corruption.
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment in Ilorin and drew over 100 corps members from the 2025 Batch B and C, as well as the 2026 Batch A streams.
Addressing participants, the Head of the Directorate’s Public Affairs Department, Babatunde Ayodele, urged the corps members to serve as ambassadors of integrity in line with the preventive vision of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. He described young people as critical stakeholders in building a corruption-free society.
Ayodele, an Assistant Commander of the EFCC, said the Commission’s mandate to prevent and prosecute economic and financial crimes would be more effective if young Nigerians champion accountability and transparency. “The fight against corruption cannot be won in courtrooms alone — it must first be won in the hearts and decisions of young people,” he said.
He outlined the objectives of the NYSC/EFCC CDS group, including anti-corruption advocacy, public enlightenment, and community engagement. He encouraged members to organise awareness campaigns in schools, markets, and places of worship, and to use platforms such as drama, debates, and town hall meetings to educate the public on cyber fraud, identity theft, and money laundering.
Ayodele also cautioned against online fraud and acting as financial “mules,” highlighting the legal consequences of cyber-related offences. He stressed the importance of whistleblowing through proper EFCC reporting channels to strengthen the rule of law.
He urged the corps members to demonstrate ethical leadership at their Places of Primary Assignment, noting that character and integrity would define the long-term value of their service year.
Responding on behalf of the NYSC, CDS Supervisor Mrs. Abosede Gbolahan commended the Commission’s preventive approach, describing the session as enlightening and aligned with efforts to nurture a generation that rejects corruption. She reaffirmed the corps members’ commitment to ethical service throughout their national assignment.
