The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has hosted members of the media and the university community to a Ramadan Iftar, appreciating journalists for their continuous support and partnership with the institution.
Speaking during the event held on March 10, 2026, at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge, Prof. Egbewole expressed gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to gather and break the fast with key stakeholders of the university. He particularly commended members of the media for their contributions to the growth and development of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the relationship between the university and the media has continued to strengthen over the years, describing journalists as a vital pillar of support to the university. According to him, the presence of media professionals at the Iftar further reflects the cordial relationship between the institution and the press.
The gathering also featured a sermon delivered by the Chief Imam of the university, Nasir AbdusSalam, represented by the Deputy Chief Imam, Dr Musa Abdullahi, who urged Muslims to reflect on their actions and maximise the spiritual opportunities in the remaining days of Ramadan through acts such as Qur’an recitation, charity and I’tikaf.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muktar Adeiza Etudaiye, the Registrar, Monsur Adeleke Alfanla, the Bursar, Abiodun Lawal, the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, as well as deans, heads of departments, students’ union leaders, members of the press corps and other distinguished guests.
