Several passengers were injured on Monday when an Abuja-bound train en route to Kaduna derailed following a collision, officials confirmed.
Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), told DAILY POST that the incident occurred near Asham. He noted that, while there were injuries, no fatalities have been reported.
Injured passengers were promptly taken to Idu train station, where they received medical attention.
Opeifa added that the NRC has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the derailment.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja-Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” he said.
Authorities have assured the public that safety measures are being reviewed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
