A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Makurdi has ordered the remand of six farmers at the Makurdi Correctional Centre over the alleged killing of a 72-year-old man, Andrew Katseen, in Jato Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The accused persons — Ternenge Torkuma, Emmanuel Tersoo, Sesugh Gbuusu, Emmanuel Mvendaga, Saaondo Beeka, and Torkuma Akiighir — are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, and culpable homicide.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Chief Magistrate Kelvin Mbanongun declined to take their pleas, citing the court’s lack of jurisdiction in the matter. He adjourned the case until September 29 for further hearing.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Ato, the case was initially reported on July 13 by Tyoyila Katseen at the Adikpo Police Station and later transferred to the State CID. The victim’s wife reportedly found his lifeless body on July 14, with visible head injuries and a pestle found beside the corpse.
The complainant alleged that the six defendants, along with others still at large, were responsible for the killing. Investigations led to the arrest of the suspects, while efforts to apprehend additional suspects continue.
