Aisha Yesufu Backs Death Penalty for Election Riggers

Date:

Political activist and co-founder of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has backed calls for capital punishment for election riggers in Nigeria.

Yesufu expressed her support in a post on her verified X handle on Friday, reacting to Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s recent statement recommending severe sanctions against perpetrators of electoral malpractice.

She wrote, “You see that thing that is reported that Alex Otti said ‘anybody planning to rig election should first write their will,’ is the mentality Nigerians should have!”

Reiterating her stance, Yesufu added, “I have repeatedly said anyone that rigs election should be treated as a terrorist.”

Governor Otti had earlier urged for unforgiving penalties against those who manipulate elections, describing electoral malpractice as one of the gravest threats to democracy in Nigeria.
