APPEAL BY HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS, EMIR OF ILORIN, ALHAJI(DR. )IBRAHIM SULU-GAMBARI, CFR., ON COVID-19

I appeal to all members of the Council of Chiefs,once again,to sensitize all their Chiefs and Subjects about  Coronavirus or COVID-19. As you are probably aware, Covid-19 is a deadly disease that is ravaging many countries in the world and causing several deaths even in the most advanced
countries.

They should also be sensitized about recommended measures to curb the disease and
measures/instructions issued by government from time to  time in the interest of public health and safety. The medical experts say the disease is spread easily from  person to person through the air we breathe and putting contaminated hand into our nose ear and eyes.

The symptoms of this disease include dry cough;
sneezing,sore throat and difficulty in breathing. The sneezing  and cough help to contaminate the air,hands and surfaces around infected persons.
There is no known cure or vaccine so far available for coronavirus disease.

However, health officials told us that the spread of the disease can be prevented by simple measures which include washing of hands thoroughly with soap and water (flowing water, if possible) for about 20 seconds, avoid touching our eyes, noses and mouths with our hands which may have been contaminated from touching surfaces such as door knobs or shaking hands of the infected people.

The shutdown, obviously, will cause a lot of discomfort particularly to the poor and vulnerable group of the society.The government and philanthropists are already taking steps to reduce hardship and support those affected or likely to be affected.

The choice is very hard but if we fail to obey, we risk being overwhelmed by the disease, leading to more deaths, God forbid. All Traditional Rulers of all grades should work hard and support the government in all its efforts to preserve the citizens of Kwara State.

Government orders must be sacrosantly adhered to by all concerned. Stay home and stay safe. I appeal to all individuals to observe the authority’s orders in order to minimize the effect of the on going
pandemic. May God save us all and endow the government with the right decisions all the time.

Signed:
His Royal Highness

Alhaji(Dr. )Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR

Emir of llorin&Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs
