England thrash Serbia 5-0, Tuchel singles out Madueke

Date:

England manager Thomas Tuchel has praised Noni Madueke for his performance in the Three Lions’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Serbia in Belgrade, but urged the winger to maintain greater focus.

Madueke netted England’s second goal in the 35th minute, with captain Harry Kane, Ezri Konsa, and Marc Guehi also finding the back of the net. Marcus Rashford sealed the rout with a late penalty at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Tuchel described Madueke’s display as “hungry” and commended his work rate, especially his defensive contribution in supporting Reece James.

“On top of that, he needs to stay focused,” Tuchel said. “I’m most happy about his attitude today, the reaction after ball losses, and the work he put in to help Reece. The work-rate is what I like the most in his performance. From there, he’s fast, direct, and likes to dribble — that’s what we want from him.”

England now sit seven points clear of Armenia at the top of Group K in the European qualifying campaign. Their next assignment is against Latvia in October, with Madueke hopeful of retaining his place in Tuchel’s starting XI.
