The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced plans to arraign four suspected one-chance robbers recently arrested for alleged attempted kidnapping and robbery.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspects were apprehended following a distress report about a lady allegedly kidnapped by the gang, who demanded a ransom of ₦1 million.
According to Adeh, police operatives from the Life Camp Division immediately launched an operation upon receiving the report. Through the deployment of tactical and digital intelligence, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of October 9, 2025, during a confrontation in Dape Village, Abuja.
“Two victims were rescued during the operation. However, one of them, who sustained multiple stab wounds inflicted by the suspects, was promptly taken to Gwarinpa General Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment,” Adeh said.
She identified the arrested suspects as Solomon Tanko, Samuel Audu, Chigozie Joseph, and Emmanuel Chidiebere — all male.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in multiple one-chance robberies across the Bannex and Kado areas of Abuja, using a vehicle with tinted windows to deceive unsuspecting passengers.
Adeh added, “They confessed to having picked and robbed six victims, both men and women, before their arrest.”
Recovered exhibits include 15 passports, two daggers, two cutlasses, four mobile phones, two hammers, three biros, and several bloodstained documents.
The Police spokesperson confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
She said, “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, commended the swift response of the Life Camp Divisional Police Officers and urged residents to trust the police by reporting suspicious activities promptly for quick intervention.”
The notorious one-chance robbery menace has remained a persistent security challenge in the FCT. In June 2024, six suspects were arrested for engaging in similar operations, while in November 2024, three others were caught impersonating police and DSS operatives to rob unsuspecting passengers.
Security analysts say the latest arrests in Dape Village underscore the importance of proactive policing, intelligence sharing, and rapid response in curbing the growing threat of one-chance robberies in Abuja.
