FG Moves to Improve Electricity Distribution in Ebonyi, Enugu

Date:

The Federal Government, through the FGN Power Company, is intensifying efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure in Ebonyi and Enugu states under Phase 1 of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). The intervention is aimed at improving power supply, boosting economic activity, and ensuring long-term grid stability in the region.

As part of the rollout, a delegation led by Chief Commercial Officer Babatunde Daramola-Oniru held high-level meetings with officials from both states, including Secretaries to the State Governments and Commissioners for Energy. The discussions focused on aligning priorities, addressing implementation challenges, and ensuring effective coordination for smooth project delivery.

In Ebonyi State, attention was placed on key transmission projects such as the proposed Ugwaji–Okposi 330kV double circuit line, designed to enhance grid capacity and unlock stranded electricity generation. State officials, including Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government Professor Grace Umezurike, welcomed the project, describing it as vital for powering critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and the planned international airport.

In Enugu, the initiative is being positioned as a driver of economic transformation and urban development. Secretary to the Enugu State Government Professor Chidiebere Onyia said the project aligns with the state’s ambition to build a smart, investment-friendly city, stressing that reliable electricity is central to industrial and digital growth.

Both states have pledged full cooperation to support the initiative, while FGNPC expressed confidence that strong stakeholder collaboration would accelerate delivery timelines and maximise the impact of Phase 1 of the PPI across the South-East region.
