FG Warns Universities, Polytechnics Over Non-CAPS Admissions

Date:

Guidelines for the 2026 admission exercise into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria are expected to be considered and adopted on Monday during the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board  policy meeting.

The meeting, which will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, will bring together vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and heads of education agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education. The outcome is expected to formally kick off the 2026/2027 admission cycle.

JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said nearly two million candidates participated in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and the decisions reached at the meeting will determine the official admission guidelines for the new academic session.

Meanwhile, a delegation from Sierra Leone, led by Deputy Minister of Education Sarjoh Aziz Kamara alongside vice-chancellors of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology and Njala University, is in Nigeria to understudy JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The visit is part of efforts to develop a similar admission structure in Sierra Leone.

The delegation, which expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s admission model, also noted that JAMB’s system has helped streamline admissions effectively. They will participate in the policy meeting and observe how stakeholders are involved in Nigeria’s admission process, as JAMB continues preparations for the 2026/2027 exercise.
