FRSC Deploys 650 Personnel For Imo Ember Months Safety Campaign

Date:

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Imo State Command, has deployed over 650 personnel for its 2025 Ember Months safety campaign, aimed at reducing road traffic accidents during the year-end period.

The campaign was launched on Friday in Owerri by the Sector Commander, Udensi Oji. Ember months—September through December—traditionally see increased travel as people move for holidays, celebrations, and year-end activities, placing heightened pressure on the road network.

Oji said the deployed team includes 350 officers and more than 300 Special Marshals. The campaign’s theme is: “Take Responsibility for Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving.”

“The initiative seeks to educate the public on the economic, health, mental, and emotional costs of road crashes,” he explained. “It will also highlight the legal and ethical consequences of traffic violations, encourage responsible loading practices, and enforce weight limits.”

The campaign will promote road safety, discourage speeding, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration. Oji also urged commuters to use the FRSC mobile app to monitor driver conduct.

Key targets include commuters, roadside traders, livestock handlers, motorcyclists, tricyclists and their passengers, local communities, and transport operators.

Oji revealed that the command has mapped out an action plan for free traffic flow from December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026, to manage the expected surge in vehicular movement.

He advised drivers to maintain full concentration on the road, avoid mobile phone use, and minimize in-car distractions to stay safe during the busy period.

Noting that Owerri is a gateway to several neighbouring states, including Abia, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, and Cross River, Oji described the city as a major traffic hub, especially during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He also encouraged residents to make use of the command’s toll-free emergency line, assuring that ambulance services and tow trucks will be available throughout the Ember Months period.
