Galatasaray open talks for Man City’s Akanji

Date:

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has emerged as a transfer target for Turkish champions Galatasaray, with talks already underway.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Istanbul club has approached City regarding the Switzerland international and has also opened discussions with the player’s representatives over a potential personal agreement.

Galatasaray are eager to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes and view Akanji as a key option to reinforce their defence. The 30-year-old centre-back was an unused substitute in City’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth in their Premier League opener, raising fresh questions about his role this season under Pep Guardiola.

With John Stones, Rúben Dias, and Abdukodir Khusanov already ahead in Guardiola’s defensive options, Akanji will have to decide whether to remain and fight for his place or seek regular football in Turkey.

The move, if completed, would see Akanji link up with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who is also on Galatasaray’s radar this summer.
