Gloria Jones to Headline 2025 Nigeria Independence Ball

Date:

The 2025 edition of the Nigeria Independence Ball and Dinner Awards (NIBAD) is scheduled to take place in October, with legendary soul singer and philanthropist Gloria Jones confirmed as a headline guest.

Jones, best known for her iconic song “Tainted Love,” will join the event to mark Nigeria’s Independence in what organisers describe as a special and memorable celebration.

In a statement, Barrister Thompson Tabi, initiator of NIBAD and Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the 2025 event would be the fifth edition and promises to feature several new innovations, to be unveiled gradually in the run-up to October.

Tabi explained that Gloria Jones was selected to headline this year’s ceremony in recognition of her contributions to music and humanitarian causes. He noted that her presence aligns with the event’s mission to honour excellence and integrity.

Speaking further, Tabi said NIBAD aims to highlight the achievements of Nigerians at home and abroad who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields. He lamented that public attention often focuses more on negative stories, overshadowing the many Nigerians making a positive impact globally.

“The essence of NIBAD is to correct that imbalance by identifying and rewarding Nigerians who are truly deserving of honour within a calendar year,” he said.

Tabi emphasized that the awards ceremony is intentionally timed to coincide with Nigeria’s Independence Month to reinforce national pride and unity.

Details regarding the full programme and honourees for the 2025 edition are expected to be released progressively ahead of the event.
