Gov Ahmed assures Corps members of adequate security during service

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has assured Corps members posted to the state of adequate security of their lives and properties during their service year.

Gov Ahmed gave the assurance on Monday at the NYSC Orientation camp at Yikpata, Edu local government during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch ‘B” stream II orientation course.

A total of 1, 961 made up of 747 males and 1, 214 females Corps members reported at the camp as at close of the camp on January 26, 2017.

The Governor, who was represented by the Head of Service (HOS), Hajia Sara Umar told the Corps members to feel at home in Kwara and see the state as their second home.

He called on traditional rulers and security agencies in the state to make sure that the lives and properties of the corps members deploy to their domain were secured.

“At this point, I call on all our security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders and all stakeholders to ensure that Corps members are given adequate security in their various places of primary assignments.

“I encourage you to feel at home and remain commitment to the growth and development of our state,” the Governor added.

“The NYSC by implication of its core values calls for maximum discipline, dedication, loyalty and high level of commitment on the part of participants.

“I therefore urge you all to be humble, polite, diligent and respect all constituted authorities in the discharge of their duties during the service year,” Ahmed said.

He said his government has put in place many youth friendly programs that will go a long way to strengthen the future of Nigerian youths.

“Your knowledge, skills, and expertise will be needed to compliment government’s efforts in strengthening the much deserved dividends of democracy to all our people in the nook and crannies of the state.

“You will surely make yourselves and the nation proud by putting into practice the knowledge you have acquired during the course of this orientation exercise,” the Governor said.

He pledged the continuous support of the government toward the actualisation of all NYSC programs and activities.

“We are not ignorant of the decay condition and gross inadequacy of the various facilities at the NYSC Orientation Camp,” he added.

Gov Ahmed said a new hostel will be built at the camp to cope the increasing population of corps members in the camp.

“Comprehensive rehabilitation of existing facilities at the camp will receive prompt attention,” The Governor said.

Earlier, in her address, NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Esther Atamenwa appealed to all employers to make the welfare/productivity of their Corps members paramount.

She said NYSC will not hesitate to withdraw any Corps members found to be maltreated or under-utilised by and employer.

Atamenwa implored all Corps members to accept their postings in good faith and desist from influencing their postings for whatever reasons.

The State Coordinator reminded the Corps members that failure to comply with the posting will attract strict sanctions.

“I implore you to settle down in your respective location and contribute to the growth and development of your host communities through Community
Development Service (CDS).

“You are encouraged to take up Skill Acquisition Ventures just as you have been exposed to during the course of the orientation program.

“This will in no small way make you self-reliant and independent after your service year,” Atamenwa added.

She expressed her appreciation to the State Government for the approval for the drilling of two additional bore-holes in the camp.
