Governor AbdulRazaq Rewards Kwara United Players with ₦5m and Plots of Land, Honors Viral Popcorn Seller

Date:

In a bold show of appreciation and encouragement for sporting excellence, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced a generous reward of ₦5 million and a plot of land for each player of Kwara United Football Club, following their historic triumph at the 2025 President Federation Cup.

The announcement was made shortly after the team returned home from Lagos, where they emerged champions after a tense final that ended in a penalty shootout victory over Abakaliki FC. The landmark achievement marks Kwara United’s first major national title and secures their ticket to the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

In a heartwarming gesture, the Governor also donated ₦1 million to Oluwatoyin Oluwapanmile Abdullahi, popularly known as “Iya Guguru”, the popcorn seller whose passionate support for the team went viral during the final match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Her spirited presence captured the hearts of football fans across the nation and symbolized the unbreakable bond between the club and its supporters.

“This is a moment of pride not just for Kwara United, but for the entire state,” Governor AbdulRazaq said. “These young men have shown determination, discipline, and the true Kwara spirit. Their victory is our collective victory. Iya Guguru’s passion represents the soul of our football culture, and she deserves to be celebrated too.”

This reward package is one of the most substantial incentives ever given to a Nigerian football team at state level, underlining the Governor’s continued investment in sports development and youth empowerment in Kwara State.

Kwara State continues to solidify its position as the emerging powerhouse of Nigerian football.
