There was a fire outbreak at Lagere area of Ile-Ife, Osun State where property worth hundred millions of naira were reportedly destroyed by fire.
The incident, which started at a popular filling station on Tuesday, reportedly spread to other properties surrounding the filling station, including a shopping complex, a commercial bank and a student hotel.
There was no casualty, but some people sustained various degree of injuries, property worth hundreds of millions of naira were destroyed.
Osun Fire Service spokesperson, Adekunle Ibrahim, in his statement said, “a five-ton gas cylinder behind the filling station exploded when the fire incident started”.
Adekunle said, the ton gas cylinder wreaked havoc to adjoining properties around the station, which include a shopping complex, a commercial bank and other corporate offices around the Lagere area.
The Director of Fire Service, Mr Olubunmi Oyelami, went to the scene of the incident, yesterday for assessment to the level of damage done by the inferno as well as the cause of the fire.
