Iran has reportedly launched missile attacks targeting United States military bases in Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, marking a sharp escalation following earlier strikes on Iranian territory by Israel and the U.S.
Al Jazeera reported that Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE closed their airspace after explosions were heard in Kuwait amid the unfolding developments.
Qatar’s Defence Ministry said on Saturday that an Iranian missile was intercepted by the Patriot air defence system, preventing it from reaching its intended target.
In Bahrain, authorities confirmed that an explosion occurred after a missile attack reportedly targeted the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, based in the country.
According to Reuters, a loud explosion was also heard in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, though details of damage or casualties were not immediately available.
The latest attacks follow a joint military operation by Israel and the United States against Iran, intensifying fears of a broader regional conflict.
There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. officials on the extent of damage to its facilities in the Gulf, as governments across the region moved to secure airspace and critical infrastructure.
