Jigawa grants N133m scholarships to 53 foreign students

The Jigawa Government says it has paid N133 million as scholarships for 53 students studying in Egypt and Sudan.

The Executive secretary of the state Islamic Education Bureau, Malam Yakubu Abbas, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse.

Abbas said the students were pursuing degree courses in various Islamic disciplines in the two countries.

“The money was paid for students ranging from those in level 100 to 400,” Abbas said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Jigawa Government award foreign scholarships annually to students who excel in various National Quranic recitation competitions.

The students are usually sponsored to Al-Azahar University Cairo, Egypt, Malaysia and African International University Khartoum, Sudan.

They pursue degrees in Sharia Law and other Islamic disciplines.
