June 12: Every Nigerian has right to peaceful protest – UK

Date:

United Kingdom, in celebration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day says every citizen deserves the right to protest.

Recall that some Nigerians across the country trooped out on June 12, demanding for good governance.

The protesters were met with restraints as some were arrested while others were dispersed with tear gas and gunshots by policemen.

However, some converged again in front of a motor park, approved by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, with placards.

The crowd chanted “Buhari must go”, demanding good governance and an end to insecurity in the country.

UK in a post on its Twitter page in celebration of Nigeria’s democracy says it is of utmost importance for the values to be upheld in the nation.

A tweet on its official Twitter page read: “On #Nigeria’s #DemocracyDay, we celebrate every Nigerian who has contributed to establishing democracy in this country and emphasise the importance of upholding its values, including the right to free expression and to peaceful protest.”
