Kwankwaso Not Joining APC, Confirms NNPP Chairman

Date:

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed reports that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ahmed made the clarification while speaking with the news men, responding to questions about Kwankwaso’s political intentions.

He emphasized that the NNPP remains open to forming coalitions with parties that share its philosophy, but that this does not indicate a defection.

“I don’t think what he said indicated in any way that he is defecting or about to defect. NNPP has a long-standing position that we have options,” Ahmed explained.

He outlined the party’s strategic choices: to join a coalition with like-minded parties, to go it alone, or to consider proposals from other parties with guarantees that the interests of NNPP members will be protected.

“Kwankwaso only mentioned one of the three options. He said that if the APC makes a concrete offer, he will consider it, provided it safeguards the interests of the party members rather than just himself,” Ahmed added.

The NNPP chairman stressed that no formal defection has occurred and that all options remain on the table as the party continues to plan for future political strategies.
