The Kwara State Govenrnment has restated its commitment to strengthening Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), in order to achieve the universal health coverage.
The State Commissioner for Health and Chairperson BHCPF SOC, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, gave the assurance on Tuesday at the quarterly BHCPF State Oversight Committee(SOC), meeting held at Fresh Hotel, Ilorin.
Dr El-Imam also spoke about the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s led – government to universal and equitable health care delivery irrespective of socio – economic status.
According to her, “while stakeholders continue to play vital roles within the health sector, every member of the society also has a part to play in building a stronger health system”.
She also emphasized that the public interest, contribution and active participation in health services across wards, local government and the entire State are crucial to achieving collective progress.
“Even though we may not yet be where we aspire to be, we are firmly on the right path. As we make steady progress, this Quarter four SOC meeting is not only an opportunity for our usual review, but also a moment to celebrate ourselves”, she stated.
The Commissioner therefore, expressed appreciation to all personnel in the Ministry of Health and every officers across the health sector for their dedication.
She also commended members of the State Oversight Committee for their partnership, leadership and commitment to actualizing the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for universal and equitable health care delivery regardless of socio- economic status.
Also speaking, the BHCPF Desk Officer, Dr Lambe Kudirat, who presented an overview of SOC activities for 2025, noted the that the programme has significantly improved PHC performance across the 193 Wards in the State.
According to her, routine monitoring visit to health facilities had yielded positive outcome for patients and communities.
She added that efforts are ongoing to boost patronage at PHCs by encouraging health workers to remain proactive and responsive in their duties.
Dr. Lambe further highlighted government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality health care in remote areas, improving facility conditions and providing free and affordable health services to residents.
She therefore, urged Kwarans to make adequate use of Primary Health Centres in their communities in order to benefit from the intervention.
