
The Kwara State Police Command has concluded the 16th Edition of the Kwara Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Commissioner of Police Cup 2025 at the kwara football Academy field, George Innih Stadium.
This reaffirms its commitment to engaging youths positively and reducing involvement in criminal activities through sporting initiatives.
ROYAL NEWS reports that the Tournament began on the 5th of August, 2025 with a total of 81 matches played; U-17 Boys played 29matches, U-13 Boys played 48 matches while the U-17 Girls played 4 matches.
At the grand-finale, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, emphasized that the Command will continue to explore sports as a tool for crime prevention, peace-building, and community engagement.
A statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said “Tournaments of this nature provide constructive avenues for young people to channel their energy, discover their talents, and stay away from crime.
”The Commissioner of Police further noted that this year’s edition demonstrated remarkable gender inclusiveness, with impressive participation of female athletes, which he described as a major boost for grassroots sports development in the State.
“He expressed optimism that many youths would be inspired to pursue excellence both in sports and in life, thereby reducing youth restiveness.”
Also present at the event was the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, represented by Mallam Bolakale Mogaji, Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, who pledged the continued support of the State Government towards youth and sports development.
Other distinguished guests from sister security agencies honoured the ceremony with their presence and support; the management team of the Kwara Police command, its officers and men were also in attendance.
The Chairperson of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Kwara State Chapter, Mrs. Catherine Adekimi, underscored the importance of giving young girls role models who will encourage them to make positive contributions to society.
