Kwara PDP Distances Itself from New Coalition Movement

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disassociated itself from a new coalition movement reportedly being promoted by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other political figures.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the State Secretary, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the party made it clear that it has no affiliation with the coalition and emphasized that the PDP in Kwara remains firmly under the leadership of former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

The party expressed concern over what it described as attempts by some political actors to mislead its members and supporters by falsely invoking Saraki’s name to gain credibility for the emerging movement.

“These individuals, many of whom either left the party or were inactive during the September 2024 local government elections, are now trying to regain relevance by using Dr. Saraki’s name,” the statement read. “Despite their absence, our party secured victory in those elections, proving the enduring support we enjoy from the people of Kwara.”

The PDP warned those behind the coalition to stop exploiting Saraki’s legacy and instead campaign on their own merits.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki remains a committed member of the PDP and continues to play a vital role in the party’s efforts to strengthen and unify its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement added.

The party reaffirmed its unity and loyalty to the PDP’s principles and called on members to ignore any pressure to join the coalition.

“Our members should remain vigilant and steadfast. The PDP remains their political home,” Kayode concluded.
