Kwara State Government has reiterated its efforts at having an impactful synergy with both local and international stakeholders in solid minerals development in order to boost mining practices and other solid minerals related activities in Kwara State.
The Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Chief Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, gave the assurances during the week, at a meeting with Kwara State operational office of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), in her GRA office, Ilorin, the state capital.
Chief Buraimoh maintained that the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration is firmly committed at ensuring environmental Safety Compliance and Security at our mining sites, consequent upon which he has established a robust collaboration with relevant stakeholders, towards a guaranteed safety, for existing and prospective investors in Kwara State.
In his remarks, the Head of Operations, Kwara State Operational office of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), Engr. Olasinde Surajudeen Tayo, explained that NNRA is charged with the responsibility of ensuring protection of life, health, property and the environment from harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
Engr. Tayo highlighted that the sector regulated by NNRA includes Nuclear facilities, petroleum industries, mining, manufacturing industries, health, Agriculture, research etc.
He therefore sought the Ministry’s collaboration to enable Kwarans get protected from legal and illegal miners across the State, adding that the synergy will further ensure that valuable mineral resources available within the state are developed safely and protected for the people and its environment from potential radiological hazards.
