The Kwara State government has launched an integrated health outreach program, deploying 1,500 health workers to 193 primary healthcare centers and temporary posts across the state. The program, dubbed Kwara I-HOP, aims to reach 166,309 children under one year, 831,554 under-five children, and 207,885 pregnant women.
According to Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, the program will provide comprehensive services, including routine immunizations, general health consultations, and screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and nutrition-related issues. “The services we will provide are comprehensive and integrated. It’s not just about one intervention; it’s about the overall well-being of our people,” Elelu said.
The program’s launch was commended by Dr. Olubunmi Ajayi, State Coordinator of the World Health Organization, who praised the state government’s commitment to primary healthcare. “The agency is one of the prides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s many achievements,” Ajayi added.
