The Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a 37-year-old man, Andre Wright-Walters, in connection with the killing of Nigerian national James Gbadamosi, 67.
According to a police statement on Monday, Gbadamosi was attacked on August 24 along Balham High Road at about 4:00 p.m. He sustained severe injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death on September 5.
“Police were called to reports of an assault in Balham High Road around 15:40 hours on Sunday, 24 August. A 67-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and, sadly, he died in hospital on Friday, September 5. He has been formally identified as James Gbadamosi,” the statement read.
Wright-Walters was initially arrested in August and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a Class A drug. He appeared before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on August 28 and was granted bail.
Following Gbadamosi’s death, he was rearrested on September 6 and charged with murder. He appeared again before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on September 8.
Police also confirmed the arrest of a second suspect, a 30-year-old woman, who was first detained on August 27 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. She was rearrested on September 6 for alleged conspiracy to commit murder but has since been released on bail pending further investigation.
Detectives say inquiries are ongoing as they continue to gather evidence surrounding the circumstances of Gbadamosi’s death.
