Kwara Records Improved BECE Results, Higher Female Participation

Date:

The Kwara State Government has released the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, showing improved performance in core subjects and a rise in student enrolment, particularly among girls.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the results in a statement on Monday in Ilorin, attributing the gains to the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration’s investments in education.

According to him, BECE enrolment grew by 27 percent between 2019 and 2025, rising from 45,761 candidates to 57,787. Female participation also increased slightly from 47.89 percent to 48.33 percent during the same period.

“In 2025 alone, enrolment grew from 56,508 in 2024 to 57,787, while attendance improved in most subjects,” Olohungbebe said.

Performance also improved across several core subjects. Pass rates rose by 2.23 percentage points in Mathematics, 2.94 in English, 4.51 in National Values, 3.72 in History, and 3.33 in Pre-Vocational Studies. Average scores in these subjects also increased, reflecting broader gains beyond the pass threshold.

“These results show that more candidates are sitting for the examination and a larger share is achieving success. The system is trending in the right direction,” the commissioner added.

He directed principals, parents, and guardians to collect results from the Ministry of Education beginning Thursday, September 11, 2025, at no cost.

Olohungbebe also cautioned school heads against extorting students, warning that “collection of results and scratch cards for checking are entirely free.”
