In Alápa, a modest farming community in Kwara State where footballs are rare and hoes are more common, 14-year-old Tobiloba Adeoye is rewriting the town’s narrative—one goal at a time.
Currently a student-athlete at Kwara Football Academy, Adeoye has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising young footballers. After transferring from Koller Football Academy, the striker has become a sensation in the Kwara Kiddies League, finishing as top scorer for two consecutive seasons with 14 goals in both 2023 and 2024. He also provided 7 assists in his debut season and was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) both years.
“I started playing football in 2022 when I was just 10. Back then, it was just for fun,” Adeoye shared in an interview with PUNCH Sports Extra. That fun soon turned serious when Coach Usman Jubril discovered him during a scouting visit to Alápa.
“I saw something special in him—even at that young age,” said Jubril. “I decided to personally sponsor his development, covering his transport and welfare for over two years.”
Originally deployed as a midfielder, Jubril later repositioned Adeoye as a forward after recognising his natural goal-scoring instincts. The result: a team built around his talent and back-to-back top scorer accolades.
His talent has also shone on the national stage. At the 2025 Chief of Naval Staff U-14 Boys’ Tournament in Kaduna, Adeoye netted five goals and four assists, once again earning the MVP title and further proving his potential.
Now living and training full-time at Kwara Football Academy, Adeoye is adapting well. “It’s been very good, sir. I’m enjoying my time,” he said modestly. But his ambitions are far from modest.
“I want to play for Nigeria’s U-15, U-17, and U-20 teams—and one day, the Super Eagles,” he declared. “My dream club is Real Madrid, because of Cristiano Ronaldo. I grew up watching him. I also admire Taiwo Awoniyi.”
The comparison to Awoniyi, another Kwara-born striker and the sponsor of the Kwara Kiddies League, is one his peers readily make. They’ve even nicknamed him “Awoniyi” because of his similar style and hunger for goals.
Despite his rural upbringing, Adeoye has remained focused on both academics and athletics. He left Government Secondary School, Alápa to continue his education at the academy. “If I wasn’t playing football, I’d want to be a doctor,” he added.
Coach Jubril, who has guided Adeoye’s journey from the very beginning, is confident in the teenager’s future. “He’s going to be one of the best strikers to ever come out of Kwara State—and Nigeria,” he said.
With 32 goals and 13 assists in just three seasons, Adeoye’s dream no longer feels distant—it’s already in motion.
