Taiwo Awoniyi returns to training after surgery recovery

Date:

Nottingham Forest striker and Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has resumed full training following a lengthy recovery from a serious abdominal injury that sidelined him in May.

The 27-year-old was diagnosed with a ruptured intestine, a life-threatening condition that required a two-stage surgical procedure. During the initial operation, Awoniyi was placed in an induced coma to enable intensive post-operative monitoring. The second phase—closing the abdominal wound—was successfully completed three days later.

After weeks of intensive rehabilitation, Awoniyi has finally returned to the pitch. His return was confirmed on Tuesday via a post by Soar Super Eagles on X (formerly Twitter):

“Taiwo Awoniyi returns to full training after that serious abdominal injury in May. Great to see him back on the grass.”

His comeback offers a significant boost for Nottingham Forest ahead of the new Premier League season and also provides positive news for the Nigerian national team, as the striker is expected to reclaim his spot in the Super Eagles’ attacking lineup.

Awoniyi’s return marks the end of a worrying period for fans and club officials alike, following a health scare that could have derailed his career.
