Labour Party Moves to Expel Peter Obi

Date:

The Labour Party is preparing to expel its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over alleged anti-party activities, according to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi.

Arabambi made the disclosure on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief. He accused Obi of maintaining ties with another political party while still claiming affiliation with the Labour Party, calling the act unconstitutional.

“You don’t join a political party and still keep your leg in another party,” Arabambi said. “They have succeeded in luring him to their side, and there he shall remain.”

He added that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) will soon convene to formally recommend Obi’s expulsion, in accordance with the Labour Party’s constitution and standard party procedures.

“The NEC makes the recommendation, and final approval is given at the convention,” Arabambi explained. “So, Obi will be expelled from our party; he is no longer a member of the Labour Party.”

However Obi, who ran for president in the 2023 general election under the Labour Party platform, has not yet responded publicly to the claims.
