Lagos to Begin $3B Green Line Rail Project Linking Marina to Lekki in December 2025

Date:

The Lagos State Government has announced that construction of the $3 billion Green Line rail project, linking Marina to the Lekki corridor, will begin in December 2025. The project was confirmed by Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who noted that comprehensive feasibility studies and stakeholder engagements along the Lekki-Epe corridor have been completed in preparation for the launch.

The Green Line rail, expected to be completed within two to three years, will be executed in phases. The first phase will stretch from Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, while the second phase, starting from Marina, will feature an innovative on-water segment. Osiyemi emphasized that extensive consultations and assessments have been conducted to ensure smooth implementation along the corridor.

The announcement coincides with intensified government operations along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, aimed at clearing encroachments and reclaiming wetlands, which are critical to preserving the Green Line’s designated right-of-way and ensuring the project’s timely completion.
