A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has convicted and sentenced two men, Ibrahim Aisami and Bunu Usman Dankoli, in separate fraud cases involving over ₦10.5 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed the convictions via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, July 28, 2025.
Justice Aisha Kumaliya presided over the hearings. Ibrahim Aisami, also known as Ibrahim Mai Kaza, was initially arraigned by the EFCC on May 20, 2023. He was found guilty of criminal breach of trust after selling two vehicles — a Mercedes Benz C200 and a Hyundai Country — worth ₦3.5 million, which had been entrusted to him for safekeeping.
The court sentenced Aisami to six months in prison with an option of a ₦50,000 fine. He was also ordered to repay ₦2 million to the vehicle owner or serve an additional three years in jail.
According to the EFCC, the vehicle owner had travelled to Chad, leaving the cars in Aisami’s custody, only to discover they had been sold without consent.
In a separate case, Bunu Usman Dankoli was convicted for misappropriating ₦7 million. The money had been entrusted to him to execute a contract allegedly awarded by a non-governmental organisation. He converted the funds for personal use.
Dankoli pleaded guilty, and the EFCC confirmed that the victim had been fully refunded. Justice Kumaliya sentenced him to a ₦100,000 fine or 10 years in prison.
