Man, 30, docked for allegedly stealing bunches of plantain

A 30-year-old man, Shedu Abubakar, has been docked before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing bunches of plantain, iron sign pole.

Police prosecutor, Sgt.Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court yesterday that the defendant committed the offence on December 14, 2021 at about 0800hrs at Idiagba Farm, off Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti.

Sgt. Adeniyi alleged that the defendant stole 14 bunches of plantain worth N10,000 belonging to one Joseph Ojo.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant on February 18 at about 0800hrs at Idiagba Farm, off Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti, stole 4 iron sign poles worth N30,000, property of Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti Cooperatives.

According to him, the offences contravenes Sections 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his client bail, saying he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, granted bail of N10,000, in like sum with one surety to the defendant. She later adjourned the case till March 10, for hearing.
