Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has criticized Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, insisting the Portuguese coach is incapable of solving the club’s deep-rooted problems.
Speaking on his podcast, Mikel questioned Amorim’s rigid approach and his insistence on sticking with a 3-4-3 formation that has yielded poor results this season.
“The problem is way too much for him to deal with, he can’t fix the problem. His energy is affecting the players,” Mikel said.
“His refusal to even change his lineup is not stubbornness, it is stupidity. Top managers adapt — look at Pep Guardiola, for example. When teams face Manchester United now, they know how to prepare. If they’re losing, he needs to switch things, change formation.”
United have managed just two wins from their opening six league games, losing three, despite spending around €200million on new attackers. They were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier side Grimsby Town.
Pressure is mounting on Amorim to adapt tactically or risk further decline as United’s poor start to the season continues.
