‘Money Na Water’: Chief Priest Explains Philosophy of Abundance

Date:

Celebrity nightlife promoter Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has responded to billionaire Cosmas Maduka, Chairman of Coscharis Group, following his criticism of the phrase “Money Na Water.”

Maduka, in a recent speech, distanced himself from what he called the “lavish spending culture” of the younger generation, noting that he avoids events where people “throw money around.”

Reacting via Instagram, Chief Priest defended his signature catchphrase, describing it as a “modern-day philosophy of abundance and flow”, rather than an endorsement of wastefulness. He argued that while Maduka’s generation built wealth through factories, fleets, and real estate, his generation thrives on attention and visibility, which he described as the new currency in the digital economy.

“Visibility has become the new currency. In a digital economy, obscurity is bankruptcy. What you don’t show doesn’t sell. What you don’t amplify dissolves into silence,” Chief Priest wrote. He added that “money na water” symbolizes excess liquidity, abundance, and flow, with attention and influence now serving as the “new oil fields” of the digital age.

He further drew a distinction between generations, praising billionaires like Tony Elumelu and Femi Otedola for using their wealth to enhance Africa’s visibility, while urging Maduka to remove his name from that list, describing his approach to wealth as inconsistent with the modern philosophy of giving and projection.

Chief Priest concluded by emphasizing that his catchphrase is a prophecy of wealth overload, insisting that “MONEYS NA WATER! Na my business be this, Na My Lamba make nobody try spoil am as e dey go.”

The exchange highlights the generational shift in wealth perception, with younger entrepreneurs and influencers placing high value on digital presence and attention-driven capital, contrasting with older generations’ focus on traditional asset accumulation.
