A wave of violent attacks across several states in Nigeria has left dozens dead, many injured, and others abducted, heightening concerns over worsening insecurity nationwide.
In Adamawa State, no fewer than 39 persons were reportedly killed late Sunday night when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area. Survivors said the attackers stormed the village for hours, killing residents, burning homes and places of worship, and destroying property.
The community, located near the Sambisa forest axis, was left in mourning as many residents fled over fears of further attacks.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who visited the area, described the killings as “tragic, barbaric and unacceptable,” assuring residents of intensified security efforts and support for victims.
In Benue State, at least seven people were killed by suspected herdsmen in Channel One community in Logo Local Government Area. The attack, which lasted two days, also left several residents injured and displaced many others.
Local authorities confirmed the incident, noting that the attackers operated in groups on motorcycles and fled after the assault, while security agencies have been alerted to respond.
Meanwhile, in Plateau State, gunmen killed a pastor, Rev. Ayuba Choji, his wife, and their two children during a late-night हमला on Gako Village in Riyom Local Government Area. Residents said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, forcing people to flee.
The killings have intensified fears in the area, with community leaders warning of a pattern of coordinated attacks targeting rural settlements and farmlands.
In Kogi State, gunmen abducted 23 pupils and the wife of a school proprietor during an हमला on an orphanage and school facility in the Zariagi area of Lokoja. Authorities later confirmed that 15 of the pupils had been rescued, while efforts continue to free the remaining victims.
Similarly, in Ondo State, a farm manager, Afolabi Ajayi, was kidnapped by gunmen in Imafon community, Akure North Local Government Area. Security operatives have since launched a search operation to rescue the victim.
These coordinated incidents have triggered widespread fear and displacement in affected communities, with renewed calls for stronger collaboration among security agencies to address Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
