The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted counterfeit malaria drugs worth over ₦1.2 billion in Lagos State.
In a statement issued Friday, the agency said its operatives discovered 277 cartons of unregistered Malamal Forte tablets in a warehouse in the Ilasa-Oshodi area.
According to NAFDAC, the fake medicines were concealed in cartons labeled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg and illegally imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China. The shipment was falsely declared as spare parts in the container manifest.
NAFDAC Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, said the operation underscores the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health. She noted that the seizure was made possible with the backing of the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health.
“This seizure is part of NAFDAC’s sustained nationwide operation to protect public health and ensure only safe, quality medicines are available to Nigerians,” the agency stated.
The interception adds to ongoing efforts by NAFDAC to curb the circulation of counterfeit and substandard medicines across the country.
