NCC Addresses Telecom Service Disruptions In Abuja

Date:

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged ongoing quality of service challenges affecting telecommunications users in Abuja, assuring subscribers that steps are being taken to restore normal service.

In a statement, the commission said the disruptions were largely caused by interruptions in diesel supply to base stations operated by IHS Nigeria Limited, a colocation provider that powers infrastructure used by major operators, including MTN and Airtel.

According to the NCC, the diesel supply disruption stemmed from actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which affected fuel delivery to critical telecom sites, resulting in service outages across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The commission noted that reliable power supply is essential for optimal telecommunications services and said it is working closely with operators and other stakeholders to resolve the challenges.

It added that engagements are ongoing to address the diesel supply bottlenecks and explore sustainable solutions to prevent a recurrence, urging all parties involved to cooperate in restoring services promptly.

“We reiterate our commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of telecommunications services in Nigeria,” the NCC said, adding that it is facilitating dialogue among affected service providers and relevant stakeholders.

The commission said it remains focused on managing the situation effectively and will continue to update the public on progress toward restoring full services in Abuja.

It also appealed to subscribers for patience and understanding, reaffirming its commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality telecommunications services nationwide.
