NELFUND Warns Students Against Fake Loan Portal, Urges Vigilance

Date:

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a public warning about a fraudulent website and misleading information being circulated online, purportedly linked to the student loan application process.

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, alerted the public to the scam, which falsely claims that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the reopening of the student loan portal.

“The attention of NELFUND has been drawn to a fraudulent message currently circulating online, falsely claiming that President Bola Tinubu has directed the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal,” Oluwatuyi said.

The deceptive message contains a link to a fake website—**https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/**—which she emphasized is not affiliated with NELFUND in any capacity.

“We wish to categorically state that this website is FAKE, and the information contained in the message is false and misleading,” she declared, urging students and the public to disregard the message and avoid the fake portal.

She clarified that the only official website for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund’s student loan application remains https://nelf.gov.ng, and warned users not to submit any personal or financial information on unverified websites.

Oluwatuyi also advised students, parents, and guardians to exercise caution and avoid engaging with any unofficial links or messages, stressing that such actions could result in identity theft or financial loss.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and digital safety, she noted that all official announcements would be made exclusively through NELFUND’s verified platforms.

She urged anyone who comes across suspicious websites or messages to promptly report them via email to info@nelf.gov.ng for proper investigation and action.

Additionally, Oluwatuyi directed the public to follow NELFUND on its official social media channels for updates and accurate information. These include: X (formerly Twitter): @nelfund, Instagram: @nelfund, and Facebook/LinkedIn: Nigerian Education Loan Fund – NELFUND.
